Sometimes it seems like we go through seasons of life where it’s one difficult circumstance on top of another. As if we’re spiraling through a series of unfortunate events. Yikes. And often times, when one bad thing happens after another I find myself saying (half-jokingly, and half seriously) “God hates me”. And if it weren’t for the fact that I KNOW the truth, I think I would be tempted to really believe that “God hates me”.
“Seriously God, You could control these things but you’re not. You could help me get out of this situation, but you don't seem to be doing that. You must not love me...you must hate me.”
I think God knew that we’d have a tendency to respond that way during the difficult seasons of life. And I think that’s why, through the Holy Spirit, He directed Paul to say,
“Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is our through Christ, who loved us.” Romans 8:35, 37
Be strong, friend. God has not abandoned you in your hardship. Nothing can separate you from His love. His death is proof of His unconquerable love. Rest securely in Him.
